Driving Instructors
Before taking driving lessons with any driving school we recommend that you thoroughly check your instructors ADI licence, which should always be on display in the left side of the car windscreen. This will have a photograph of the instructor and an expiry date, only qualified driving instructors will display a green licence. Trainee instructors will display a pink licence also with a photograph and an expiry date, this means that they have not passed all the examinations to become an Approved Driving Instructor and are still undergoing training. This could mean that you are not receiving the best tuition available, even though you may be charged the same. If your instructor does not display a green or pink licence he/she is not qualified and should not be charging for lessons.
If you require further information on driving instructor qualifications you can visit the official Driving Standards Agency web site at http://www.driving-tests.co.uk.

Theory Test
The Theory Test for Car Drivers and Motorcyclists was introduced in July 1996. It was designed to improve road safety.
Included in the test is driver's attitude, traffic signs and regulations, effects of alcohol, drugs and fatigue on driver's behaviour, the safety and environmental aspects of vehicles.
The test consists of 35 multiple-choice questions in which you must get at least 30 questions correct to pass. Once you have passed your Theory Test you must pass your Practical Test within 2 years, if this is not achieved you will have to retake the Theory Test.
Contrary to popular belief the Theory Test is not easy and does not just consist of road signs. The only way to pass first time is to thoroughly study the material available.

Practical Test
The driving test is conducted by a Driving Standards Agency Examiner and lasts between 38 - 40 minutes. The routes are used to include a typical range of traffic and road conditions and starts and finishes from your local Driving Test Centre, on average you drive for about 8-miles during this period. The Examiner tests your ability to drive safely and competently and tests you on all that you have learnt during your lessons. You can fail the test if you commit a serious or dangerous fault, or if you have 15 or more driving faults. Immediately after the test the Examiner will advise you if you have passed or failed. If unfortunately you have failed you will be advised where you went wrong and given a printed sheet with the details. This sheet will be useful to show your driving instructor to assess what further training is required. You can apply for another driving test straight away providing 10 working days has elapsed between each test.

Hourly Lessons and Intensive Courses
WNDS offers two ways of learning to drive, either hourly or intensive.
The only requirement for hourly lessons is that you must hold a current provisional driving licence. Lessons are taken for a minimum of 1 hour, but you can have as many lessons as you require a week. Whilst learning to drive the Theory Test should be taken and passed then the Instructor and the pupil will mutually decide when the Practical Test is to be taken. The average person will take anything from 20 - 40 hours tuition to reach the standard that is required to pass the driving test. It is beneficial to the pupil to have as many lessons as they can over a short period of time.

To have intensive lessons you must hold a current provisional driving licence, plus you must already have passed the Theory Test. We will book the practical test and then arrange for lessons to be taken leading up to the test date; this can be over a week or two week period. To benefit from this type of tuition you must have excellent concentration, as you will be given a lot of information over a very short period of time.
If you do not live in the vicinity of West or North Norfolk we offer a bed & breakfast service at reasonable prices.
Once you have passed your Driving Test you can take a Pass Plus Course, which covers a number of driving conditions including Motorway. Once this has been taken this may reduce the cost of insuring your car. To find out more details on Pass Plus visit the official Driving Standards Agency web site http://www.passplus.org.uk

Motorcycle Tuition
We offer a full range of Motorcycle Tuition, including CBT for all categories and Direct Access. An experienced Driving Standards Agency fully qualified instructor carries out our training. We cover Mopeds, 125 cc, and 500 cc bikes. You can choose to learn by either taking hourly lessons or have an intensive course on the run up to the test day.
Before you are allowed to ride a bike on the highway without supervision you must have completed a CBT course (Certificate of Basic Training). This consists of a minimum of 4 hours instruction, which includes on and off road. This will cover the basic controls of the bike and manoeuvres and ensures that you are confident enough to ride a bike unsupervised on the road.
